Weatherly Style Side Table

Summer is here I really want to make some patio furniture! I was just at Home Depot and they are starting to have sales on patio sofa cushions. I’ve decided I would make this style patio furniture from Ana White’s website.

I will only be making two sections since our patio is pretty small. Before I jump into this however, I’m going to make a side table inspired by this design. It will have the cross sections on two sides, be open in the middle and have a stone top. I’m thinking black or maybe a cool gray? The sofa and side table will be painted white. I don’t know why I can’t get passed white. uuggghh 🙂 It just looks so nice and I already have my white swinging bench, so there ya go.

I will get plans together soon and post them. I can’t wait to go to the store to check out my stone top options! And what type of wood? Pine? Hem-fir? I always like using hem-fir. Oh well, you’ll know soon! Happy weekend!!

Master Bath remodel

Awhile back my husband went on a week long business trip. I decided while he was gone that I would remodel are master bath. It’s a small bathroom and we wanted to take out the old vanity to make it a bit more spacious. And I had one week, not even, 5 days! I got the painting (including the ceiling!), beadboard and sink done. I’ll do some before and after shots….(sorry, not the same view)

It was a lot of work ripping out the old vanity. And I decided to just frame, paint and put shelves in for the medicine cabinet. Although now I’m thinking about adding some doors. The floor was the last thing to do. We went with an engineered click bamboo flooring. I wanted a grayish floor and the floor I ended up buying was called Light Taupe so I was a little worried. But it couldn’t have been more perfect! I put a metal transition in but I think I’m going to buy the transition that matches the floor soon and install that. I think it will look much nicer!

We love the new bathroom. It was the first time I had to take off and replace a toilet. That was interesting! But it turned out great!

Coming soon….

New flooring and baseboards in the main living area of the house!

Crazy news and Happy Summer!

Hello and happy summer!

This morning I received a crazy email. The caption read, “Top Woman Bloggers into Power Tools” Here’s the link….

I wondered, what is this and why is this coming to me? So I look at the article and start scrolling down and eventually see my website on the list!! Oh my gosh! My first thought was, I haven’t done anything in months! And then to be listed with some of the most popular bloggers is CRAZY! I feel like I should be saying, I’m just happy to be nominated… 🙂

Well, this has got me and my son (who is super impressed) thinking, I need to build something! So I have a few things in mind but in the meantime I have a couple of house  remodels to post! I installed engineered hardwood flooring in the main part of the house and remodeled our master bath. So I will post those soon. Can’t wait to get started again, thanks for the boost Tools Critic!

Outdoor Bench (in YELLOW!)

I was so happy to paint this bench yellow! Finally, not white. 🙂 It’s a nice pale yellow and I think it will be a great outdoor bench. This bench did not take long to make. I did do something different however, so that set me back a bit. I decided to use my router to cut out sections on all four legs so the main seat would rest on the legs for added support. And this thing is very sturdy! Which I love.

Not sure what my next project will be. It’s been busy around here and in December very cold. It’s hard for me to get out in the garage when it’s so cold. My husband keeps telling me to buy a heater but I have a feeling it won’t warm it up enough!

Anyway, here’s the bench and hopefully it will warm up soon so I can get back out in the garage! 🙂 Happy Building! ~Michele

Children’s Table and Chairs

Here are the pictures of the table and chairs. They are not completely done yet. I did some staining, tung oil application and painting before Thanksgiving. My goal was to keep this table as natural as possible. I did stain the tops of the table and chairs with coffee, which works great. I also tried staining the base with beets and it made it a nice pinkish color but splotchy because it is a color stain. It was nice but not the effect I wanted. So I ended up painting it a nice pink! I think I need to do more test staining with natural colors before I commit to it! 🙂

I have one more coat of tung oil and I also might do another coat of pink before it’s completely done. It was a lot of fun doing this project. I loved making the chairs! Can’t wait to make more. I’m not 100% on what my next project will be but I’ll post that update soon.

Happy Holidays! ~Michele

Chairs are done!

Yeah!! The chairs are done and super cute! I am onto the staining, sealing and painting stage. While I do that I might whip up another bench! 😉

Everything went pretty well with the chairs. I definitely need more clamps!  I need to start making a list when I work of the things I would like to have. Christmas is coming!! Right now I’m going to finish typing up the instructions for my bench. I’ll try to make one page instructions that I can hang on a clip board in my shop (aka garage.) So if I want to go back and make something I can just put it on top and get to work!

I will post my final pictures of the table and chairs hopefully by Friday!

It’s a Chair!

I know it’s a pretty simple thing, the chair. But it was so satisfying to turn it upright after assembling the legs and aprons and seeing a chair!

I love it and I think it turned out great! I have some gaps to fill since I didn’t use my router for the notches but that’s ok. I also adjusted the height of the table and the back of the chair and now I’m working on the second chair. I also have to decide how to style the back rest. I’m hoping to have this work done by Monday. Just in time for my Tuesday post! 🙂 Stay tuned…. ~Michele

Update to my update…

So I JUST realized, I have a router. Remember those notches I was talking about? Yeah, I have a router. So I could feel like an idiot because I totally forgot I could use a router for the notches OR I could say, I wanted to show people how to do notches if they don’t have a router or table saw. Aaaannnnd that’s what I’m gonna go with…. 🙂

But seriously, part of the reason I do this website is to show that you don’t have to have a bunch of awesome power tools and expensive equipment to make decent furniture. But it would help if you remember that you own one! 😉

Table and chair set update!

Happy Wednesday! I really wanted to get this post out yesterday since I was on a roll with Tuesday postings but unfortunately it didn’t happen. 😦

On the upside, I’ve done a good amount with the table and chairs. The table is all set except I have to make it a wee bit shorter. So I am going to us the circular saw to take of an inch or two and hope I don’t mess it up! 🙂 I cut the chair seats out with my jigsaw, they don’t match exactly but that’s ok. I used a template I made out of a brown paper bag  and that worked fine. Here’s the table and seats, sorry, it’s hard to get a picture without dogs in them!

I cut all the legs for the two chairs and figured out how I would assemble them. I actually decided to make a notch in the back legs for extra support. I started to use my jigsaw but then tried my miter saw and it actually worked pretty well! The only issue I had was how to sand the middle part. I didn’t have tool that would work, so what did I do? I made one! 🙂 And it worked perfectly! I was so excited. Anyway, so now I just have to finish one leg and I can attached the legs and aprons! I’ll post another update on Friday! ~Michele
